Punjab govt offices close due Kanshiram's death

Chandigarh, Oct 9 (UNI) All state government offices today remained closed as a mark of respect to Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) founder Kanshiram who passed away at New Delhi this morning.

Mr Kanshiram hailed from Ropar district of Punjab.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh expressed profound grief and sorrow over the demise of the BSP leader.

In a condolence message, Capt Singh said that he was a seasoned politician with the rare qualities of head and heart. ''Kanshiram was a leader of the Dalits who worked for the welfare and betterment of the downtrodden and the lower strata of the society. The nation had lost a gem and a void had been created which was difficult to fill'', the CM said.

Capt Singh also expressed his heart-felt sympathies with the members of the bereaved family and prayed to God to give strength and courage to bear this irreparable loss and grant peace to the departed soul.
