Shimla, Oct 9 (UNI) People in Himachal Pradesh are safe from dengue threat because the aedes aegypti mosquito that causes the disease does not survive at an altitude over 2,000 feet, state Principal Health Secretary Harinder Hira today said.

''People residing in the state are safe since the chances of dengue mosquito surviving over 2,000 feet are very little,'' she told UNI here.

Denying any dengue case in Himachal, Ms Hira said that the three cases that have been reported in a section of the press had not originated in the state.

''People had contacted the disease outside the state and had returned back home for treatment,'' she said.

Two cases of people suffering from the disease were reported from Solan district, while another was reported from Nagrota Surian area of Kangra district yesterday and all had returned home after contacting the disease outside the state.

She said there was no reason for people to panic since the disease was not communicable by touch or by any other means.

The state has already sounded a high alert in the major hospitals of the state following reports of dengue being reported from the neighbouring states, she added.
