Monsoon withdraws from rest of MP

Bhopal, Oct 9 (UNI) After withdrawing from southern Madhya Pradesh and the state capital last week, the southwest monsoon has departed from rest of the state.

The monsoon had arrived in the state on June 19, almost after a delay of 16 days.

Meteorological department spokesperson said the eastern part received 18 per cent less rainfall at 90 cm, while the western part received 18 per cent more rainfall at 106 cm during the period.

He pointed out that 19 per cent less or more rainfall was considered normal.

Seventeen district received less than average rainfall, while Ujjain division turned out to be the wettest place with 1712.7 mm rainfall. Bhopal received 1,686.3 mm rainfall, 67 per cent more than average rainfall.

The monsoon turned agressive in August and a situation of flood developed in several districts. Monsoon fury claimed 145 lives, including 22 in the state capital, while property worth Rs 1,000 crore was destroyed.

Sheopur, Morena, Panna, Bhind, Chhatarpur and Tikamgarh districts received 43-49 per cent less than normal rainfall, while Gwalior, Dindori, Damoh, Jabalpur, Jatni, Rewa, Satna, Harda, Khandwa and Shivpuri received less than 20-37 per cent rainfall.
