Kunja Rani wins gold in All India Police Games
Jalandhar, Oct 9 (UNI) Olympian Kunjarani Devi of the CRPF today won the 48 kg Women's Weight Lifting event in the 55th All India Police Games-2006, creating a new record of 166 kg in the process.
Kunjarani lifted 73 kg weight in snatch and 93 kg in clean and jerk to improve the previous record of 72 kg and 92 kg respectively.
Her teammate A Sandhya Rani finished at second position lifting 149 kg (66 kg and 83 kg) and Sharda Siddi (Karnataka) with 146 kg (65 kg and 81 kg) stood third.
In 56 kg Men's weight lifting event Vicky Batta of Punjab Police secured first position by lifting total weight of 234 kg, followed by Basanta Meitei(CRPF) 209 kg and Gurpal Singh(Punjab Police) 205 kg second and third respectively.
Similarly, in 90 kg category of Men's Judo Vinod Solanki of BSF secured first place while Narender Singh(CISF) stood second and Brij Lal(Punjab Police) and Karambir Singh(ITBP) secured third place jointly.
Jatinderpal(Punjab Police) won in the 100 kg category of Men's Judo event followed by teammate Yaspal Solanki(second) and Samunder Tokas(BSF) and Anil Dagar(ITBP)(joint third).
The events of Boxing, Judo, Gymnastics and Weight Lifting were being held in the PAP Indoor Stadium here under the 55th Police Games-2006.
As many as 27 teams from various states police forces and Central Para Military forces are participating in the events which were inaugurated by Punjab Director General of Punjab Police SS Virk today.
