Jharkhand government invites weavers to insure

Jamshedpur, Oct 9 (UNI) Jharkhand government has invited the weavers in the state to insure under ''Mahatma Gandhi Bunkar Yojna'' launched by the Centre on October 2 with Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) under its social security schemes.

Inaugurating the LIC's celebrations of social security month at the Jamshedpur divisional office here today, the Joint Director of Ministry of Textile industries of Jharkhand government K K Dutta said the eligible weavers would get benefited from the scheme for an annual premium of Rs 330.

He said out of the total premium the Centre and the LIC would pay Rs 150 and Rs 100 respectively while the state government would pay Rs 75 out of the insured weaver's contribution of Rs 80 per annum.

Mr Dutta said apart from the other benefits the children of the insured weavers, studying from class IX to XII, would get a student scholarship of Rs 300 quarterly under the government's ''Shiksha Sahayog Yojna''.

He said 31703 people of the state were benefitted from 112 social security schemes of LIC with active cooperation from the government and non-government agencies in the current financial year.

Mr Dutta told the newsmen that the government would soon revive the Sanjay Gandhi Cooperative Mill at Irua near Ranchi. The mill was locked out since 1993.

He said the government would also set up Sizing and Weaving plant at cost of Rs 10 crore and 100 acre land had also been acquired near Ranchi for the proposed plant.

Senior divisional manager (Jamshedpur division) D P Mohanty said LIC had already covered over 1.73 crore persons under its social security schemes.
