Jabalpur jail to be named after Netaji

Bhopal, Oct 9 (UNI) The Central Jail at Jabalpur will be named after Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, who was incarcerated there during freedom struggle, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said.

''All basic facilities to lead a normal life will be provided to the prisoners and efforts will be made to convert jails into reform centres,'' Mr Chouhan said while addressing prisoners at the Central Jail here yesterday on the occasion of ''Bandi Hit Diwas'' (Prisoners' Benefit Day) being observed for the second year.

The Chief Minister announced that vacancies of jail guards would be filled up and the post of Jailor would be upgraded to gazetted rank. The Centre, if necessary, would be approached to increase the foodgrain quota for prisoners, he added.

He said exgratia of Rs 50,000 would be paid to the family in case of sudden death of prisoner, while daughters of female prisoners would be given assistance under the ''Mukya Mantri Kanya Vivah Yojana''.

Mr Chouhan, who also inaugurated sports competition and painting exhibition at the jail premises, lauded the talents of prisoners and assured to encourage them. He also released a book written by a prisoner, Deshraj.
