Hindu Munnani urges President not to grant clemency to Afsal
Tiruchirapalli, Oct 9 (UNI) The Hindu Munnani today urged President Abdul Kalam not to grant clemency to Mohammed Afsal as his involvement in the case was proved beyond doubts.
Addressing a press conference here, after attending a meeting, Hindu Munnani Founder Ramagopalan said the meeting strongly condemned Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Gulam Nabi Azad for his comments on Mohammad Afsal, who had been convicted in the Parliament attack case.
The meeting also condemned the demolition of the century-old Mandapam at Sri Ranganatha Swamy Temple by the district authorities.
It urged the Government to take appropriate action against the officials of the Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board, who were responsible for the demolition of the Mandapam.
He said the meeting also decided to file a Public Interest Litigation in this regard.
It also criticised Tamil Nadu Government's order banning the sale of crackers from October 11 to 18 in view of civic polls.
It said the decision would affect the festive mood of the Hindus and the business of traders.
The meeting urged the Centre to ensure that the Ramar Sethu Bridge, believed to be laid by the forces of Lord Rama, was not distorted, while carrying out the Sethu Samudram Project.
The statellite pictures of NASA had proved the existence of Ramar Sethu Bridge. The Hindu Munnani had recently undertaken a signature campaign in the state in this regard and submitted a petition with 33 lakh signatures to President Abdul Kalam, when he visited Tamil Nadu recently.
