Four Oppositions to take on BJD-BJP in Orissa Panchayat poll

Bhubaneswar, Oct 09 (UNI) Four opposition parties in Orissa today decided to take on unitedly the ruling BJD-BJP in the ensuing Panchayat polls in the state.

In a joint press release issued here Orissa Gana Parishad(OGP), CPI, CPM and the Janata Dal(S) said they would expose the BJD-BJP coalition for converting the Panchayat system in the state as a store house for corruption and neglecting the developmental works during the last five years.

OGP President Bijaya Mohapatra, CPM state secretary Janardan Pati, CPI state secretary Nituananda Pradhan and Janata Dal(S) secretary K C Patra who met here resolved to defeat the BJD-BJP in the panchayat polls.

The Opposition leaders alleged that the mining policy, industrial policy and the power policy adopted by the NDA backed BJD government in the state had led to the looting of valuable resources of the state pushing the people into untold miseries.

They further said the population living below poverty line in the KBK areas had risen from 72 to 89 per cent line during the regime of the present government despite pumping huge central funds.

The lift irrigation points had suffered a major set back and collapsed with the introduction of the Pani Panchayat scheme, they added.

They also said instead of accepting the reality the state government was trying to mislead the people on the KBK funding plan thereby diverting their attention from the all round failures of the government.
