Bangalore, Oct 9 (UNI) The Karnataka High Court today directed the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences not to approve the admissions made by 180 nursing schools in the State.

Adjourning further hearing on the petition to November seven, Chief Justice Cyriac Joseph and Mr Justice Ajit J Gunjal passed the interim direction on a suo moto writ petition in pursuance of a letter written by a former judge of Kerala High Court to the Chief Justice, seeking a direction to the State Government and the varsity to accept the S Gurumurthy report with regard to infrastructure and other facilities available in 352 nursing schools in Karnataka.

The report had stated that these institutions did not have adequate infrastructure, staff, clinical facilities, buildings and equipment and that the State authorities had not taken any action to remedy the situation.

The court had earlier directed the State Government to file a report on the writ petition and the S Gurumurthy report. The court today considered the Government report and the S Gurumurthy report.

It directed the varsity not to approve the admissions made by 180 nursing schools and inform the said institutions individually through registered post that the admissions for 2006-2007 were not approved. However, the court permitted the individual schools to come on record in the writ petition and file a detailed report to the court and seek relief.
