Curfew relaxed in trouble torn Dakshina Kannada District

Mangalore, Oct 9 (UNI) Authorities today relaxed curfew for four hours this morning in trouble torn areas of Mangalore and its neighbourbood as the situation after a spree of violence that left two killed and 90 injured, limped back to normalcy.

Curfew was relaced in Ullal and Konaje besides Mangalore city and rural Mangalore as no fresh incidents of violence was reported overnight, Deputy Commissioner M Maheshwar Rao told UNI.

People came out of their homes in droves and rush to shops to buy provisions and other essential commodities.

Schools and colleges had been closed for two days till tomorrow.

Mr Rao said if the situation improved further, lifting of curfew could be considered by this evening.

However, night curfew is likely to continue in sensitive areas.

Karnataka Home minister M P Prakash, Union Minister of state for Home Prakash Jaiswal, Congress leader Janardhan Pujari and Union Minister Oscar Fernandes would be visiting the trouble hit areas in the district today.
