Commune Panchayat leaders to hold meeting

Puducherry,Oct 9(UNI)The newly elected commune Panchayat Presidents have decided to hold a meeting and take out a procession on October 12 to press the government to grant powers to them.

A resolution to this effect was adopted at a meeting of the commune Panchayat Presidents here yesterday.

The Presidents of the five commune Panchayats cutting across party lines held the meeting under the presidentship of Mr K Natarajan, (DMK), the Villianur Commune Panchayat President.

The meting observed that even three months after the local body elections, the Panchayat Presidents were yet to be granted their due powers.
