Centre releases Rs 5603 crore to states under NREGA

New Delhi, Oct 9 (UNI) The Centre today informed the States that it has already released Rs 5603 crore under National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA).

The information came during the course of the regional performance review meeting held here to review the progress in the implementation of various rural development programmes of Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep and Pondicherry.

Under NREGA so far, 3,39,219 works have been taken up out of which 1,10,000 works have been completed. Water conservation and related works have been given top priority.

Minister for Rural Development Raghuvansh Prasad Singh has impressed upon the State Governments to ensure strict vigilance mechanism so that the muster rolls are properly maintained.
