Be regular in monitoring implementation of POA Act:Meira to CMs

New Delhi, Oct 9 (UNI) Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Meira Kumar has asked chief ministers of 16 states to regularly review implementation of the Prevention of Atrocities(Against Scheduled Catses and Scheduled Tribes ) Act.

In a letter to the chief ministers, she said they should hold regular meetings of state-level vigilance and monitoring committtees, as in the absence of the minutes of such meetings, the Ministry has not been able to release Central Assistance under these Acts to the states for 2006-07.

The states which have not provided minutes of the meetings of the two committees are Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Haryana, Himachal, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttaranchal, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal.
