Asian boxing championship in Goa from tomorrow, Pak doutful

Panaji, Oct 9 (UNI) Nearly 70 pugilists from 14 countries including defending champions Kazakhistan will particpate in the six day 2nd Junior Asian Boxing championship which will get under way from tomorrow till October 15 at Calangute in North Goa.

The Indian Amateur boxing Federation (IABF) President Abhay Singh Choutalla and the Secretary Major Col Murli Dharan Raja jointly told in a press conference here today that out of the 14 teams confirmed 12 teams already arrived today which includes defending Champions Kazakhistan, Kyrgtzstan, Turkmenistan, Sri Lanka, Chinese Taipei, Mongolia, Japan, Malyasia, Iran, Maucau and host India.

Vietanam and Thailand are expected to arrive tomorrow.

Mr Choutalla said, Runners up Uzbekistan will not particpate in the championship while Pakistan's participation is doubtful.

Defending champions Kazakhastan who will be fielding a strong 11 member team going to defend their title, can expect a tough time from their rivals Japan, Chinese Taipei, Mongolia and host India.

India Coach is hopeful of an impressive performance from his boys. V Santosh, a silver medal winner at World Junior recently would be a strong contender for gold medals.

The Goan silver Medalist Santosh Harijan, who will represent among the 11 memeber India team is also expected to put up a good show.

The Goa Amateur Boxing Association (GABA) General secretary Mr Lenny D Gama said the stage is all set for the event.
