Malik urges Govt to send wrestlers for training in Belarus, Japan

Chandigarh, Oct 8 (UNI) Haryana Wrestling Association president Dr M S Malik has requested the Sports Ministry, Government of India, and Sports Authority of India to make arrangements for training of the Indian wrestlers in foreign countries to prepare them for the forthcoming Doha Asian Games.

Praising the performance of the Indian wrestlers in the international competitions, Malik, who is also vice president of the Asian Associated Wrestling Committee and member of International Wrestling Federation (FILA), said that the male wrestlers should be trained in Belarus and the females in Japan for six-week.

Malik is confident that the Indian wrestlers would bring laurels to the country by winning medals in the Doha Asian Games.

Mr Malik congratulated the Indian wrestlers for their 'marked improvement' in the World Wrestling Championship held at Guangzhou in China from September 25 to October 1. ''It was after a gap of 39 long years that India won their second medal in the World Championship and the credit goes to Alka Tomar of Uttar Pradesh who finished third in 59 kg for women in which 24 wrestlers from all over the world competed,'' said Malik.

Another woman wrestler Geeta got the seventh position out of 27 competitors in the 55 kg class.

Mr Malik also appreciating Yogeshwar Dutt's performance in the 60 kg class. Dutt got the fifth place in the 60 kg freestyle category in which 30 wrestlers were in the fray.

India had fielded a seven-member team in freestyle competitions.

Three of them finish among first ten positions. The Indians finished in the 12th spot in the freestyle team championship.

Vinod Kumar(55 kg) got seventh place out of 30 competitors and Rohit Patel(96 kg) finished 10th out of 27 wrestlers.

Palwinder Singh Cheema (120 kg) was 11th position among 27 competitors in the 120 kg class.
