Mah govt sanctions Rs 632 cr compensation for flood-affected

Sangli, Maharashtra, Oct 8 (UNI) Maharashtra Cooperation and Rehabilitation Minister Patangrao Kadam today said the government has sanctioned Rs 632 crore for compensation to flood-affected farmers and others in the state.

Mr Kadam said Rs 473 crore will be provided to the farmers whose crops were damaged in recent floods and the remaining Rs 158 crore to those whose houses were damaged in rains. The compensation would be disbursed to the affected before Diwali, he added.

Speaking at a function, organised at the Sonhira cooperative sugar factory, Wangi, of this district, he said the state government was actively considering creating funds to the tune of about Rs 16,000 crore to speed-up pending irrigation projects works and fill irrigation backlog of Marathwada, Vidharbha.
