DPA eyes clean sweep in local body elections: Krishnasswamy
Tiruchirapalli, Oct 8 (UNI) Stating that the victory chances for the Democratic Progressive Alliance (DPA) led by DMK were very bright in the ensuing local bodies elections, Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) President M Krishnasswamy today claimed that the DPA will sweep the local bodies elections in the state.
Addressing a press conference here, he said the DPA would capture all the six Corporations. The Congress candidates for the Mayor posts in the two allocated Corporations would be selected after the elections, he added.
Replying to a query he said the Congress leaders would meet Chief minister M Karunanidhi, who was heading the DPA in the state on the 16th and 17th of this month for the allocation of two more Corporations.
Asked about the mushrooming of group politics and rebel candidates within the party, he said all issues would be settled amicably by the party.
On the recent outburst of senior Congress leader and Union Minister G K Vasan that those genuine Congressmen were denied tickets in the civic polls, he said if it was so, then it was unfortunate.
It was not necessary to say that, since the party had given seats to only genuine Congressmen, though one or two mistakes might have happened, he added.
Asked whether the TNCC would take action against Mr Vasan for his comments, he replied in negative and said they would settle the issue.
He said Congress President Sonia Gandhi had been invited by the TNCC to address the party meetings at Coimbatore, Tirunelveli and a northern district after the local bodies elections.
Earlier, Mr Krishnasswamy, along with Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram campaigned for the DPA candidates in the city.
