Centre to raise 15 police battalions in J

Srinagar, Oct 8 (UNI) Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil today said the Centre has already sanctioned raising of 15 police battalions in Jammu and Kashmir.

Addressing a public meeting at Tangdhar in Kupwara district here to mark the first anniversary of the October 8 devastating quake, he said of these, 10 have already been established in the state and the recruitment drive for the remaining was on.

He said Jammu and Kashmir was rich in human resources and a highly qualified number of youth were available in the state.

Their services need to be properly utilised in various fields and as such a comprehensive employment generation programme required to be drawn, Mr Patil added.

The Union Home Minister said the Centre would also consider raising of more police battalions in the state to provide employment opportunities to the youth.
