Atwal slumps, Chopra soars after round 3 of Chrysler Classic
North Carolina, Oct 8 (UNI) A 13th hole eagle saved the day for Arjun Atwal as he carded a modest level-par 72 for a share of the 37th spot, while Daniel Chopra -- along with American Lucas Glover -- fired the day's best score of six-under 66 to soar to the tied sixth position after the penultimate round of the five million dollar Chrysler Classic of Greensboro here.
Atwal managed two birdies and an eagle against four bogeys to slip further down with a three-day total of four-under 212. Chopra, meanwhile, was in sensational form and his 66 took his total to eight-under 208, just two shots adrift of leaders Davis Love III (68) and Chris Crouch (69) of US, after three rounds.
Atwal, after starting with a birdie on the second hole, struggled and and ended up hitting three bogeys between the sixth and ninth to make the turn at two-over.
His backward journey also started with a birdie on the 11th and the Orlando-based Indian followed it up with an eagle on the 13th before a disappointing bogey on the 14th.
In contrast Chopra sank in seven birdies against a solitary bogey to shoot up the leaderboard and bolster his chances of finishing in top-three. The Indian-born Swede's only disappointment of the day was a 16th hole bogey which prevented him from ending the day among the top-three at the Forest Oaks Country Club.
''I played really well and struck the ball just beautifully.
Every shot that I had to shape one way or the other, I just shaped it perfectly,'' Chopra told reporters after his scintillating performance.
