34.14 lakh metric tonnes paddy procured in Punjab

Chandigarh, Oct 8 (UNI) The paddy arrivals in the markets across Punjab picked up during the last one week and till yesterday evening 34.14 lakh metric tonnes had arrived in the mandis.

Giving details Mrs Tejinder Kaur, Principal Secretary, Food and Civil Supplies today said the procurement was going on at a fast pace. As per instructions the farmers were being paid for their produce with in 48 hours of the procurement by the government procurement agencies.

Among the state procurement agencies, Pungrain had procured 5.95 lakh metric tonnes, Markfed 5.64 lakh metric tonnes, Punsup 7.15 lakh metric tonnes, Punjab State Warehousing Corporation 3.47 lakh metric tonnes and Punjab Agro Industries Corporation 3.75 lakh metric tonnes.

Food Corporation of India had procured 1.45 lakh metric tonnes while the private millers in state had procured 6.70 lakh metric tonnes.
