VCA to hold Irani Trophy match in Nagpur from Oct 9

Nagpur, Oct 7 (UNI) The Vidarbha Cricket Association (VCA) here will host the Irani Trophy match between Ranji champions Uttar Pradesh (UP) and the Rest of India (RoI) from October 9 to 13.

UP would be led by Jyoti Yadav in the absence of its skipper Mohammed Kaif and international players such as Suresh Raina and R P Singh, while RoI would be led by Wasim Jaffer, VCA Media In-Charge Rajan Nair told newspersons here.

UP entered the match with a victory over Pakistan National Champions, Sialkot, in the first Mohammed Nissar Championship at Dharamshala (HP).

Nair said the national selectors were expected to attend the match. This would be the fourth Irani Trophy match to be played at the venue. The earlier ties were hosted in 1974-75, 1984-85 and 2001-2002, he said.

Meanwhile, the UP players had a session at the nets today. The RoI players are expected to arrive here tonight and have a net session tomorrow.
