Three girl students rescued

Kancheepuram, Tamil Nadu, Oct 7 (UNI) Police rescued three girl students, who were absconding, from Mahabalipuram here today.

Police said Swarnalata(13), daughter of Manivannan, residing at Ayyampettai near here and her friends Sandya(13) and Kalpana(21) studying class eight at Ayyanpettai Government Higher Secondary School did not return home yesterday evening.

The worried parents of the missing students vigorously searched for them at their relatives and friends residences. When their efforts went in vain, Mr Manivannan, lodged a complaint at the Vallaja police station. Based on the complaint, a police team led by Inspector Devaraj registered a case and made efforts to trace the missing students.

Police, however, came to know that the students were in Mahabalipuram. The AIADMK candidate M Santanam, contesting the local body elections from Ayyampettai, rushed to the spot with the police team and found them standing in the bus stand, and handed them over to their parents.

The students, to persistent queries for their action said that they went to Mahabalipuram for sightseeing. The students were warned with stringent action, if they ventured outside Kancheepuram in futre without the permission of their parents, police added.
