New Delhi, Oct 7 (UNI) BJP President Rajnath Singh today lashed out at the Congress for reviving 'Garibi Hatao' slogan coined during the Indira Gandhi regime, terming it ''one more attempt to fool the public''.

Asked for his reaction on Congress deciding to revive the Garibi Hatao, Mr Singh told newspersons that even a child was aware of the impact of this slogan on the country's poor and unemployed youths.

"The Congress, ruled the country for over four and half decades single handedly this was not a small period for a nation of one billion people," he said, but added that it -- despite such massive mandate -- failed miserably to tackle povery and unemployment.

The only time when India flexed its economic muscle was only during the Atal Bihari Vajpayee led NDA regime where the development and progress were the real mantras of the government which not only changed the face of India internally but outside the country, he said. "World acknowledged India's economic strength", he said.

"The two and half years of Congress-led UPA regime had reversed and retarded the developmental pace and the poor and the middle class were feeling the heat of price escalation and the youths were disappointed at the manner in which the government was handling the unemployment issue," Mr Singh said.
