PUCL demands repeal of capital punishment to Afzal
Hyderabad, Oct 7 (UNI) The Peoples' Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL) today demanded that the government must commute the capital punishment awarded to Afzal in the Parliament attack case, to life sentence.
Addressing a press conference here, PUCL Andhra Pradesh unit President Keshava Rao Jadav said 'the execution of the death sentence would violate human rights'. Every human being has the right to live as per the Constitution'. Nobody has the right to kill any person', he said.
Stating that the demand from various organisations that the government must grant clemency to Afzal was an insult to the judicial system, he alleges that the trial of Afzal from the lower court to Supreme court was not fair.
He alleged that political parties were politicising the issue.
