Nine farmers commit suicides in Vidarbha in past 48 hours
Nagpur, Oct 7 (UNI) Nine farmers have committed suicides in Maharashtra's Vidarbha region in the past 48 hours, according to an NGO working for famerer's rights in the region.
A Vidarbha Jan Andolan Samiti (VJAS) release here today said four farmers ended their lives on Thursday, while the five other took the extreme step yesterday.
The deceased were identified as Baban Sakharam Sirsat, a resident of village Eklara in Buldhana district, Raghunath Namdeo Chavan of Shelu in Yavatmal district, Sahebrao Devaji Nakhle of Talegaon in Wardha district, Shalikram Sukhram Bhilawekar of Shirpur in Amravati district, Gulabrao Daulatrao Gorde of village Mokhad, Navnath Ramrao Ghuge of village Ramrao Wadi, both in Washim district, Vilas Shankar Shelke of Shelgaon, Gopal Pandurang Masane of Jawala, both in Buldhana district and Khushal Raghoji Gawande of Satefal in Yavatmal district, the release said.
With this, the number of farmers committing suicides in Vidarbha since June last year has reached to 954, the release added.
