Naxal deputy commander killed in encounter

Visakhapatnma, Oct 7: A Guttidu Dalam deputy commander K Ramulu was killed in an encounter with police in G K Veedhi Mandal in Daragodhi village in Visakhapatnam district this morning.

The district rural Superintendent of Police G J Murali said a special police party was conducting combing operations in the area and confronted a group of insurgents. In the ensuing exchange of fire, a Naxal, Ramulu was killed on the spot while others escaped into the forest agency area.

Police had intensified combing operations in the area.

In another incident, a special police party constable received splinter injuries when the banned CPI (Maoist) activists set off a claymore mine at Jagalammathota near Palakajeedhi in Koyyuru mandal in the district.

The incident occurred in the agency area when the police party was carrying out operations in East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh, he added.
