Monty will make it to future ODI side, says Flintoff

New Delhi, Oct 7 (UNI) Monty Panesar's exploits in Tests may not have earned him a Champions Trophy ticket but Andrew Flintoff exuded confidence that England's latest spin sensation will make it to the limited over version of the game in future.

England's first sikh player Monty scripted England's 3-0 win over Pakistan in the Test series at home. However, he failed to make it to the one-day fold due to less-than-impressive batting and fielding prowess.

However, Freddie said the spinner has made a case for himself in the Test team and did not rule out the possibility of Monty making it to the one-dayers in the near future.

''Monty is good. He has gained experience in Test cricket and has made a statement for himself in the longer version. He has improved a lot this summer and I am sure he is busy preparing for the Ashes next month. But, definitely, he will make it to the one-day side someday,'' Flintoff told reporters at a press conference after the team's arrival here.

Elaborating further on Monty's omission, Flintoff said it was a decision taken by the selectors and he was not part of the process.

''I am not involved with team selection as such. This is something that was decided by the selectors. But I am confident that he will get his chance in one-day cricket and make it to the ODI squad some day,'' the lanky all-rounder said.

Speaking about the man who is in the side in Monty's place, Ashley Giles, Flintoff said he was happy to have the spinner, who is coming back after recovering from a career-threatning hip injury, back in the side.

''Ashley is a popular member of the team. I am happy that he is back as he is a good friend,'' he said.

Flintoff, who refused to be called a stand-in for Michael Vaughan before leaving for India, said despite the leadership turmoil that has hit the team in the past few months, England have managed to do well.

''The reason for that (the constant change of captains) has been injuries to me and Michael. But we have still played some good cricket. Probably this hasn't been the easiest passage but we have still managed to perform well,'' he said.
