MK cancels public meeting owing to heavy rains
Tiruchirapalli, Tamil Nadu Oct 7 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK President M.Karunanidhi tonight cancelled a public meeting in the city owing to heavy down pour.
The meeting, organised by the party, at the Uzhavar Sandhai (Farmers Market) grounds at Tennur in the city was to be addressed by Mr Karunanidhi and several leaders of DMK allies.
Mr Karunanidhi, who arrived in the city at 1910 hrs by road, after concluding his election campaign at Madurai, to address the meeting drove to a star hotel in the city, where about 1000 cadres of Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) joined DMK in his presence.
Mr Karunanidhi was scheduled to address the meeting by 2030 hrs. A large number of cadres of the Democratic Progressive Alliance (DPA), headed by the DMK, assembled at the venue, braving heavy rains, since this evening, to hear the speech of Mr Karunanidhi.
The heavy rains, however, forced Mr Karunanidhi to cancel the meeting. The State Transport Minister K N Nehru, while announcing the cancellation said the meeting will be held at a suitable time.
Party sources said Mr Karunanidhi would leave for Chennai by train tonight.
