Mild tremor hits quake-battered Pakistan town
ISLAMABAD, Oct 7 (Reuters) A mild tremor has struck Balakot, the Pakistani town flattened by a devastating earthquake one year ago this weekend, but caused no casualties, officials said today.
The tremor measuring 4.0 on the open-ended Richter scale was felt late yesterday, two days before the anniversary of the 7.6-intensity earthquake that killed more than 73,000 and made millions homeless in Pakistan occupied Kashmir and parts of North West Frontier Province. Another 1,500 people were killed in Kashmir.
Yesterday's earthquake was the second to hit Balakot in a week. Last Friday, a 4.2 tremor hit the city but caused no casualties.
