KKGSS wins National Award for Excellence

New Delhi, Oct 7 (UNI) The Karnataka Khadi Gramodyoga Samyukta Sangha (KKGSS), the lone Khadi organisation authorised for producing the National Flag, today won the National Award for Excellence for its overall performance.

The award was conferred upon Mr B B Patil, KKGSS Chairman, by Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee in the presence of Minister for Small Scale Industries and Agro Rural Industries Mahabir Prasad.

The KKGSS is a Bagalkot-based federation of 57 Khadi Unions and the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) happens to be the lone federation selected from Karnataka for its best performance in production, sale, transparency.

The KVIC has issued a grant of Rs 51.10 lakh and money has been released for the first phase of implementation in 27 villages to benefit about 3,000 families involved in Khadi production.

The KKGSS, founded by veteran freedom-fighter Late Venkatestha Magadi, has an annual business of Rs 1.9 crore, secretaries of the institution B B Patil and and S V Somanatti told UNI.

The group has honoured the export order issued by the Indian Embassy in Nigeria by meeting its National Flag requirements.
