Kaginele mutt new pontiff to be anointed on Oct 29

Bangalore, Oct 7 (UNI) The anointment of the new pontiff of the Kaginele mutt of the pastoral Kuruba community, Sri Niranjanandapuri Mahaswamy, will be held on October 29 under the guidance of various religious heads in the State, Congress leader and former Minister H Vishwanath informed today.

Addressing a joint press conference of the Kuruba community leaders, including Agriculture Minister Bandeppa Kashempur (JD-S), and Malkhapure (BJP) here, he said the ceremony would be preceded by 'Kanaka Jyothi' processions from Gulbarga, Dharwad, Belgaum, Mysore and Bangalore congregating at Kaginele.

Mr Vishwanath said devotees not only from Karnataka, but also from neighbouring States like Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu were expected to witness the event. Besides, prominent political leaders cutting across party lines would also take part.

To a question, he said all the confusions and misgivings about the selection of a new seer to the mutt have been removed.

The anointment of the new pontiff was necessitated following the death of the senior swamiji Tharakanandapuri recently.
