Infiltration from POK on but situation improving
Uri (North Kashmir), Oct 7: Chief of Army staff General J J Singh has said that despite infiltration from Pakistan occuied Kashmir (POK) continuing, situation within the valley has improved.
''There has been no decline in infiltration from across the border as compared to the previous year,'' he said adding that the situation was however, returning towards normalcy.
General Singh, after inaugurating a model village at Charandu, said there were less militancy- related incidents during this year as compared to previous years.
He said their is no decline in infiltrtion. He said militants have changed there routes. A number of infiltration bids were foiled by the alert troops, the Gen added.
About allegation of Human Rights violations, Gen Singh said clear instructions have been issued to all field commanders to avoid any civilian casualities durnig the counter-insurgency operations.
He announced that whosoever is found guilty of exceeding limits is being punished as per law of the land.
The Army chief said clear cut directions have been issued to troops to avoid collateral damage during operations against militants. The operations, he said, are being carried out in a professional way by the Army.
Gen Singh expressed regret over the killing of some people due to mistaken identity.
''The Army has been asked to deal firmly with the militants,'' he said.
Gen Singh said 160 militants belonging to different militant outfits have surrendered before the Army in Kashmir since January this year.
