Mumbai, Oct 7 (UNI) The Bombay High Court today directed the Human Rights Commission to probe into the death of Reveilia Maben, allegedly killed in a fake encounter.

A division bench comprising justices J N patel and R S Dalvi passed the order, asking the HRC to submit an Action Taken Report within three months.

The petition has been filed by Reveilia's mother Joyce Maben who has sought an enquiry into the death by the HRC. She has also sought compensation from the State.

Reveilia died on February 24 in an encounter that was allegedly a consequence of the police retaliating to his opening fire on them when asked to surrender.

Chief public prosecutor Satish Borulkar told reporters that Maben was wanted for several dacoity cases and the incident was no fake encounter as alleged by the petitioner.

However, according to Maben's mother, he was in police custody on the day of the encounter. Also, her counsel Ashok Sarogi told the court that a man running away could not be shot thrice on the front portion of his body.
