Goitre strikes Punjab village
Sangrur, Oct 7 (UNI) The iodine deficiency disease goitre has struck a village in this district of Punjab with as many as 14 cases coming to the notice of the health authorities.
District health officals, when contacted today, confirmed that goitre symptoms had been noticed in 12 children and two women in Santokhpura village, on the outskirts of this town. Village sarpanch Udham Singh brought the cases before the health authorities after noticing that certain residents had swollen throats.
A team of doctors have been rushed to the village and treatment of the ailing had begun. Intially the residents of the village thought that the swollen throats were due to dengue fever.
