Election for vacant panchayat seats next month

Patna, Oct 7 (UNI) Election to 30,927 vacant seats of different Panchayats in the state would be held in two phases on November 12 and December 10 respectively.

Panchayat elections in five districts--Bhagalpurur, Banka, Nalanda, Sheikhpura and Nawada would be held on December 10 as Nalanda and Bhagalpur constituencies would undergo byelections for Lok Sabha on November 6. The Panchayat elections would be held on November 12 in the rest of the state.

Sources in the state election commission said here today that notification in this connection had been issued setting the election process in motion.

Nominations for the first phase could be filed from October 10 to 16 while scrutiny would be done on October 17 and 18. Last date for withdrawal of nominations is October 19 and polling would be held on November 12.

According to sources, nominations for second phase of election begins from November 12 which would continue till November 18.

Scrutiny would be done on November 20 and 21 while polling would be held on December 10.

Of the 30,927 vacant seats, break up of different seats are as follows----Mukhiyas--52, Sarpanch--23, Panch--23738, Gram Panchayat members--7076, Panchayat Samiti members--31 and district board members--7.
