Eight people killed in two road mishaps in K'taka
Bangalore, Oct 7 (UNI) Eight people, including three siblings, were killed and 15 others injured in two road mishaps in Karnataka today.
Police said five people were killed and 14 injured when their jeep rammed into a stationary lorry at Meen Kero cross, near Bidar.
The ill-fated jeep, carrying agricultural labourers, was proceeding to Hyderabad from Latur in Maharashtra when the mishap occurred.
While four people were killed on the spot, another died in the hospital. The injured was admitted to Umargaon hospital in Maharashtra, police said.
The dead were identified as Assamsiddin (25), Namdev (30), Vittal (35), Javed (20) and Khandu (28).
The jeep driver was arrested, police added.
In the other mishap, three siblings, aged between nine and 15, were killed on the spot and a child injured when a lorry ran over them on Hubli-Dharwad bypass. The children were crossing the road to go to Hanuman temple when the mishap occurred, police said.
The injured was admitted to Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences in Hubli. The deceased were identified as Mahadev Sampagavi (15), Lakshmi Sampagavi (10) and Shilpa Sampagavi (9).
