Dhananjay's father appeals to President not to pardon Afzal

Bankura, Oct 7 (UNI) Mr Bansidhar Chattopadhyay, father of hanged Dhananjay Chattopadhyay, along with the residents of Kuldihi village of West Bengal's Bankura district, has sent a letter to President A P J Abdul Kalam today pleading him to hang Mohammad Afzal Guru.

Dhananjay Chattopadhyay was hanged to death on August 14,2003, for raping and murdering Hetal Parekh, a minor girl, after serving 14 years of jail term.

Afzal massacred and killed several people during the December 2001 Parliament attack and was declared anti-national. He has also been awarded the death sentence. But his family and many political parties have pleaded for mercy.

Meanwhile, Dhananjay's wife Purnima said, " I pray to God so that Afzal be not hanged. Let him stay in jail. Let Afzal's wife not go through the trauma that I am passing." UNI XC KK RN1534
