Committee studying CET to submit report by October end

Chennai, Oct 7 (UNI) Dr. M. Anandakrishnan, Chairman of the committee constituted by Tamil Nadu government to recommend suitable measures for abolition of Common Entrance Test, today said the committee would submit its report to the state government by the end of this month.

He told newsmen here ''We held meetings with students and their parents at Chennai and Madurai. A majority of the students and parents opposed the CET. We will submit our report to the committee by October end, as the local body elections are around and there are many holidays in between.'' The recommendations that the committee submits to the government will be favourable for both rural and urban students, he said and added the government would decide on the implementation of the committee's report. However, he refused to divulge the details about their recommendations and said it was not ethical for the committee to disclose the recommendations.

He said the committee also analysed datas pertaining to TNPCEE and Board examinations, to find out the trend.

It may be recalled that the State Governor Surjit Singh Barnala in his address to the state Assembly had announced that the CET for admission to professional courses had become highly expensive and unnecessary hardship for the students and the constitution of the committee of educational experts to recommend suitable measures for abolition of CET from the academic year 2007-08.
