'Chikungunya to be brought under control within 10 days'

Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 7 (UNI) The Chikungunya epidemic in Kerala will be brought under control within ten days, a multi-disciplinary team from the Centre and now in the state said.

Talking to newspersons after touring the affected areas, National Vector Born Disease Control Director P L Joshi, part of the nine member team, said the disease could be brought under control by a three-pronged strategy - treatment of affected persons, effective steps to eradicate mosquitoes and creating social awareness.

Kerala was one of the nine states that reported Chikugunya after a gap of 30 years. The disease could be treated with Paracetamol and B complex tablets and there was no need to get admitted in hospitals.

Reiterating that chikugunya was not fatal, he said of the 43,138 suspected cases reported in Kerala, 38 had been confirmed.
