Bharti to depose before court in Nitish Katara murder case on Nov 25

New Delhi, Oct 6 (UNI) The counsel for Bharti Yadav, the main witness in the Nitish Katara murder case, today gave an undertaking before a city court that his client will depose before it on November 25 to give her testimony in the case.

Mr S C Bhuttan made this submission before Additional Sessions Judge Ravinder Kaur, who heard an application about the intimation of Ms Bharti for deposing in the Nitish Katara murder case.

On September 28, the court had directed the counsel to inform it when Bharti, who is believed to be studying in the United Kingdom, could testify her statement in the court.

However, the counsel appealed to the court to restrain Ms Neelam Katara, mother of the deceased, from entering the court premises besides media during the proceedings.

Bharti, daughter of Uttar Pradesh politician D P Yadav, will be staying here for four days till November 28. Her brother Vikas and cousin Vishal are accused of kidnapping and murdering Nitish with whom Bharti had allegedly had close proximity.

The court further directed Home Ministry officials to appear before it for seeking their assistance and making necessary arrangements about the appearance of Bharti.

Nitish was allegedly abducted and murdered on the intervening night of February 16-17, 2002, from Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh where he had gone there to attend a wedding reception.

So far, 17 witnesses have turned hostile in the case.

While Vikas and another accused Sukhdev Singh have been in jail, Vishal was granted bail by the Delhi High Court.
