Angolan team meets diamond traders in Surat
Surat, Oct 7: A 10-member business delegation from Angola, world's sixth largest diamond producing country, visited the India's diamond city Surat, and interacted with diamond traders here, with a view to explore business partnerships.
The team led by Manuel Arnaldo de Sousa Calado, chairman of Empresa de Diamantes de Angola, a state owned diamond mine company at Angola, met important diamond traders and industry people and participated in a meeting organised by Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry(SGCCI).
The meeting discussed possibilities of getting raw diamonds directly from the mines of Angola, sources said. The Angolan team also invited businessmen from Surat to invest in infrastructure in their country, yesterday, sources added.
According to some estimates Angola contributes 4.5 percent of the world's total rough diamond production and is keen on having good business relations with the Surat diamond polishing industry.
