Agri-business witnessing progressive changes: Ram Mohan

Hyderabad, Oct 7 (UNI) Indian School of Business Dean M Ram Mohan Rao today said the agri-business sector was witnessing progressive changes and it required integrated educational programmes at graduate and under-graduate level.

Addressing the first convocation of the National Institute of Agricultural and Extension Management here, he said there was great demand for graduates in agri-business and related areas.

Stating that certain sectoral and specialized educational programmes were gaining more importance, he said with the proposed changes in the law, foreign universities might come to India and collaboration with them would yield better results.

Apart from innovative teaching techniques and updating knowledge at the faculty level, he stressed on the need for institute-industry interface for inclusive curriculum for students.

National Institute of Agriculture Management Director General Anurag Bhatnagar said only if rural agriculture-related sectors were developed could economic growth rate be sustained.

He said measures taken for the development of agriculture-related sectors around 30 years ago are obsoleskent.

On the occasion, 13 students received gold medals for best performance in various programmes, including Post Graduate programme in agri-business management and Post Graduate programme in agri-warehousing and supply chain Management from 1996 to 2005.

Around 175 students were awarded with Post-Graduate Diplomas in the first convocation, he added.
