Vayu Sainik camp begins in Bangalore
Bangalore, Oct 6 (UNI) Nearly 600 NCC cadets, including 180 girls, are participating in the 12-day All India Vayu Sainik Camp, which began at the Air Force Station, Jalahalli, on the outskirts of the city, today.
Speaking on the occasion, Air Vice Marshal B N Gokhale, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Training Command, IAF, said flying was not a profession, but a passion and called upon the cadets to join the ranks of the IAF Air Warriors as it offered a career of adventure and tremendous satisfaction.
''The Air Force is a true example of national integration and unity in diversity,'' he said.
Indian cosmonaut Wing Cdr Rakesh Sharma (Retd), Lieutenant General Prakash Chaudhary, Director General of NCC, Air Vice Marshal Pravesh Kumar, Additional Director General of NCC, were expected to address and interact with the cadets during the camp.
NCC cadets from 15 directorates across the country were taking part in the camp, which would see a number of aviation related activities like gliding, micro light, aircraft flying, aero modelling, skeet shooting and drill. Besides, the cadets would get an opportunity to fly in Air Force aircraft and visit various places of interest in and around the city, including institutions involved in aviation related research and development like Hindustan Aeronautics limited, Air Force Technical College and Institution of Aviation Medicine.
This year, some boys and girls would get an opportunity to fly solo in the Microlight aircraft.
