Spurt in suicide cases in Mizoram
Aizawl, Oct 6 (UNI) Mizoram health department today expressed grave concern over the sudden rise in suicide cases during the current year and stated that the mental health situation of the people in the state was deteriorating rapidly.
According to the statistics given by the state government health officials, the state witnessed 73 deaths related to mental depression from January to September this year.
'' In the state capital alone, we have had 44 suicides this year, all from hanging. This alone indicates that there is deterioration in the mental health of the public, '' Dr John M Ralte, a psychiatrist in the state government health department, said here.
The main cause of the mental depression deaths that had suddenly gone up could be attributed to the progressive society, where the Mizos find themselves in a cut throat competition, he opined.
