Self-styled area commander of CPI(Maoist) killed, 6 injured

Garhwa, Oct 6 (UNI) A self-styled section commander of banned CPI (Maoist) was killed and six cadres injured during an encounter with secuirty forces at Ranka police station area in Jharkhand's Garhwa district last night, police said today.

However, the six injured managed to escape under the cover of darkness, Superintendent of Police D K Pandey said.

Police from neighbouring Chhattisgarh and the state along with CRPF under Operation Zebra carried out raids at Ranpura-Besri village.

An encounter took place between the forces and the naxalite in which police fired around 500 rounds of ammunition in retaliation to the ultras' 300, Mr Pandey said.

An automatic rifle, land mines, can bombs, 56 cartridges, 10 detonators, two electric flashes, chargers and some Naxal literature were recovered from the encounter site.
