Samajwadi party and CPI-ML to support October 9, Bangla Bandh

Kolkata, Oct 6 (UNI)West Bengal state units of Samajwadi Party and the CIP-ML (Liberation) have pledged their 'full support' to the 12- hour Bangla Bandh on October 9, jointly called by the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) and the Socialist Unity Centre of India (SUCI).

Expressing solidarity with AITC supremo Mamata Banerjee for ''continuing her uncompromising struggle'' in support of farmers in Singur, Samajwadi party state President Vijay Upadhyay in a statement here today lambasted the state government for allegedly ''snatching away'' about 1,000 acres of crop land from hapless farmers in the area.

Criticisng the alleged unprovoked lathi charge on Ms Banerjee and her party supporters by Hooghly district police on Sepetember 25, the party described the incident as an ''attack on the country's democratic pricipal'' and extended its full support to the proposed dawn to dusk statewide bandh on Monday next.

Expressing similar views CPI-(ML) Liberation state General Secretary Kartick Paul also promised his party's ''total support'' towards October 9 Bandh and urged the party supporters to leave no stone unturned to insure its total success.

While the Congress has already extended its moral support to the bandh, CPI-(M) along with-its other Left Front partners have decided to oppose it peacefully.

Life in West Bengal is likely to be paralsed since Monday next in view of the statewide 12-hour Bangla Bandh, called jointly by the AITC and the SUCI protesting the alleged acquisition of multiple cropland at Singur for the proposed small car manufacturing unit of the Tata's.
