NEC set up NEREC for better education in NE region

Aizawl, Oct 6 (UNI) In order to strengthen the infrastructure of education system in the NE region, the North Eastern Council (NEC) has established a committee ''North Eastern Regional Educational Council (NEREC)'' here.

This Council aimed at not only strengthening the infrastructure of the education system in the region, but also at using Information Technology across in all the schools, official sources here today informed.

All the Vice-Chancellors from across the NE universities would be NEREC members under the umberlla of the NEC.

The Council would accord priority especially to the subjects like Science and Mathematics and for which the NEREC would impart an exclusive training and orientiation programme to all the teachers at primary level.

The NEREC would also help the schools translate science and mathmatics books in local languages.

In the area of IT education, the NEREC with the help of the Centre would also set up point to point high speed links in ten universities of the region, These links would help students and faculty of these universities access internet, host web servers besides access E-journals, distance learning and digital library.

Special focus would be laid on skill development, and training in diverse activities would also be given by opening well equipped Industrial Training Institutes or vocational training centres.
