NCB seizes 20.205 kg heroin worth Rs 20 crore

Chennai, Oct 6 (UNI) Busting two major drug trafficking gangs, the officers of Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), South Zonal unit has seized 20.205 kg of heroin valued at about Rs 20 crore in two separate cases.

An official release here said on October four, the officers, based on specific information, intercepted two cars at Udhagamandalam and seized 16.055 kg of heroin, packed and concealed in door panel and special cavity made in the boot.

In this connection, the NCB arrested four people, including a Sri Lankan national and two hailing from Madhya Pradesh, besides seizing the car, a cash of Rs 1.55 lakh and some incriminating documents.

Velayudham alias Velu, the Sri Lankan national, who was arrested in this connection, had involved in two other seizures of heroin in Ramanathapuram in February and May this year. All the four were remanded to judicial custody.

In another incident, the officers intercepted a car in the city and seized 4.150 kgs of heroin, concealed in a LPG cylinder which was stuffed with sand and pillows to compensate the weight and appear as a gas-filled cylinder.

Two Sri Lankan nationals were arrested in this connection and remanded to judicial custody, the release added.
