NABARD to hold agri products exhibition
Pune, Oct 6: The National Agricultural Bank of Rural Development(NABARD) is holding a week-long exhibition to showcase rural micro enterprises and assist poor farmers to market their products in the city from October ten to 18.
NABARD Chief General Manager N Srinivasan told reporters that for the first time, the agency is providing this opportunity to the farmers from various districts of Maharashtra and adjoining states to display their products. The exhibition cum sale is to assist the farmers to diversify and not to be dependent on a single crop. A study stated that crop failure due to over dependence on a single crop was one of the reasons behind large scale the suicides of the farmers.
Through the exhibition, NABARD will be marketing the products of rural artisans, farmers, entrpreneurs and rural self help groups.
The participants will be trained in packaging, pricing and marketing their produce, he informed.
Farmers from Western Maharashtra, Bhandara, Vidarbha, Kolhapur, adjoining Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh are expected to participate in the exhibition.
