Modi inaugurates three-day fete in Rann of Kutch
Bhuj, Oct 6 (UNI) Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated the three-day Sharadotsav in Rann of Kutch, 38 km north of here.
Mr Modi expressed the hope that Kutch Sharadotsav will give an impetus to tourism in the state. Over 100 foreign tourists and a large number from other states and different parts of Gujarat are expected at the event.
The Utsav is being held near Loriya village in a 5 km radius where tents have been pitched for the tourists, both foreign and domestic. This tent city in the desert has craft bazar, food stalls, arms exhibition, industrial exhibition.
A horse racing competition was also held today including an air show performed by the Indian Air Force.
For selected foreign and Indian guests, 50 camelcarts safaris were organised wherein one could see the white (salty) Rann of Kutch under the brightness of the full moon. A cultural programme too began in the evening and will go on till late midnight.
Mr Modi said that the Rann of Kutch could become the focal point of tourist attraction not only within the country but at world level too following holding of such cultural event.
Tomorrow Bhuj will witness a grand carnival in the evening beginning 2000 hrs and 100 dancing and singing troupes would be participating near the famour Hamirsar lake here. The first three best troupes would be awarded a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh, Rs 75,000 and Rs 50,000 respectively. A tantalising fireworks and laser show will mark the end of the carnival late in the night.
